Hair Hair Everywhere

Saturday, July 24th, 2010

Hair-do’s are a bit of an obsession of mine. Whether it’s perfecting my pin-curls, re-creating Chanel’s runway up-do’s or getting that perfect summer braid down, I’m always on the lookout for a good tutorial and new ideas. Daily Candy has been a GREAT resource of late, with a fantastic tutorial on how to do the ‘around the world’ braid so many cute, sunny So-Cal blondes have been sporting recently. See it here. Daily Candy also has a great tutorial on the perfect messy side bun here.

And I will definitely be trying their beachy curls tutorial on my trip to Mexico, Bumble and Bumble’s Surf Spray is perfect for this look.

Refinery 29 also has a great feature on Fall’s hair trends, and I would love to see a video tutorial of that Dior look! See more at Refinery 29.

H&M finally back on track

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

It’s been the consensus amongst my lady friends that H&M had hit a rocky patch for the past year or so, with the exception of the Rykiel collection- of course. The clothes had just been bland and lacked that cool euro edge we remembered from back when you had to trek to New York City to get a fix.

Thankfully, it looks like they’re back judging by the fall look book online. There are some VERY CUTE pieces, and a really awesome app called Fashion Studio to put them together.

Mad Men Stylist Janie Bryant brings Mod line to QVC

Monday, July 12th, 2010

joan mad men

After spending an hour debating whether I wanted to break down and buy this Joan Rivers piece from QVC the other week, because- do I really want to be a person that shops on QVC? I can now be pretty sure that I’ll cross that threshold when Janie Bryant, Mad Men’s genius costume designer, brings her wares to QVC. According to WWD:

The line will debut on QVC on September 29, with 20 pieces of outerwear, sweaters, pants, and skirts, and about 10-15 pieces of costume jewelry, priced from $26 to $138. The 50s and 60s-esque line features “fake-fur jackets and capelets, reversible satin swing coats, brocade boleros, pencil skirts, skinny pants and colorful crystal pendants and pins.” As Janie tells it, “I was inspired by my grandmother’s closet and jewelry box. I used to dress up as a little girl, and spend hours dressing and accessorizing my dolls, and this line brings back memories of a fond and fun time.”

You can also sneak a peek at season 4’s wardrobe.

Hats for the Hammock

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

In LA it’s always kinda summer but, with Memorial Day a mere 12 days away we can say it’s offish. If you’re wondering what hat to wear while you lounge your $10,000 hammock look no further than Bijou Van Ness’ awesome Derby number. Her hats are hand crafted using only couture methods, a rarity these days.

See the Derby and more at Bijou Van Ness.

Cynthia Vincent for Target

The Target shoe department had been a little neglected of late, but Hark! Cynthia Vincent shoes are about to descend upon us and lo they are great. Here’s my pick (black of course).

GAULTIER FOR TARGET…. Le Meh……

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

I want to cry into my Silk Soy Creamer right now after watching this video from Target’s website. The pieces look like something you can pick up absolutely anywhere and save for the tattoo tights and woven anchor tank top, none of them say “Gaultier.”

I cried more when I watched “UP” but it’s still pretty sad, see more at Target.

AND NOW A WORD ABOUT: SPANX

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

Throw away the old stereotype that girdles and body shapers are for grannies only. Shapewear is now a must-have item in Hollywood; celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, Jessica Alba, and Gwyneth Paltrow sing its praises.

Let’s face it: No woman enjoys drawing attention to her bulge(s). From back fat, to belly blubber, to thunder thighs, problem areas aren’t the most attractive. But once you slip into a pair of shapewear, you’ll stop worrying about your unsightly flab and start loving your curvy figure. Whether you’re dressing casually for a day of shopping, dressing up for a romantic evening out, or just lounging around the house, slimming shapewears can be worn anywhere, anytime.

The ultimate goal of wearing shapewear is to hide or ‘tuck in’ those pesky areas that expose excess fat, and to highlight or emphasize the areas you want to show off the most. Now there is a variety of body shaping intimates that help slenderize your figure, giving it more curves and less fat.

For a large selection of comfortable shapewear – including tights, bras, mid-thigh shapers, panties, sheers, bodysuits, slips, slimming camis and so much more – visit Spanx.com

CHANEL’S NEO BAROQUE SPRING 2010

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

For Chanel, this seems like more of a fantasy collection that a practical one. And while I couldn’t picture myself wearing a lot of the pieces, there were some special moments here and the hair is so good it literally made my eyelid twitch.
